HiSET Testing HiSET Testing Information (PDF)

The Regional Office of Education offers High School Equivalency testing called HiSET. HiSET testing is a paper-pencil based test currently offered on the first and third Fridays of each month in our Hillsboro office and the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at our Taylorville site.

The cost of the HiSET test is $115 ($23 per subject).

Visit https://hiset.ets.org/ to learn more about the HiSET test, to see practice materials, and to schedule the test(s). An email address and credit/debit card are required to schedule test(s).

For more information regarding HiSET, please contact Sarah Huckstead at 217-824-4730.

The Regional Office of Education can still fulfill the Constitution Test requirement at no charge. Contact your local ROE office to arrange a time to test.

A TIP FOR THOSE RENEWING LICENSES

Many license-holders haven't been in their ELIS accounts since they got their licenses [up to 5 years ago]. Thus, logins and passwords are mysterious combinations that few wrote down.

This isn't a big deal as...
  1. The ROE can give them their login.
  2. They can choose "forgot password" when logging in.
After providing a login (and possibly answer a secret question . . . we've seen this step come and go) . . . Voila! The password is emailed to the license-holder.

Herein lies a problem . . . some districts changed their domain name since 2013. They went from the old "k12.il.us" format to an "org" format. So, if the paraprofessional or teacher registered with an email address that no longer exists, they cannot get their password emailed to them. That means they will have to call the ISBE Helpline.

Here are the steps for those needing to call the help line (an automated system with options):
  1. Call - (217)557-6763
  2. Choose option #2
  3. You will need to enter your IEIN followed by the pound symbol (#) -OR- your social security number (with no dashes) followed by the pound symbol (#) [that's a hash tag for our more tech-savvy associates]
  4. You will need to enter your date of birth followed by the pound symbol (#). When doing so, you must enter using 2 digits, 2 digits, 4 digits (MMDDYYYY). . . i.e., 04211984 . . . followed by the pound symbol (#).
If the stars are aligned and all goes according to plan, the recording will say they have your account pulled up and now you get to wait for a live person.

As always, the ROE Staff is happy to help those needing assistance with renewal and registration! Just give us a call at one of our office locations (see the bottom of this page).

SUBSTITUTE LICENSE FEE REFUND

  • Your Sub issuance date must be later than July 1, 2017
  • You must work at least 10 full school days within one year of your issuance date
  • You must apply for the reimbursement within 18 months of your issuance date
If you meet these requirements, please complete form 73-02: Substitute License Fee Refund Request:
